Rompers can be intimidating. When they started trending a few years back, I wanted nothing to do with them!
Lots of women, myself included, did not think they could pull off a romper. Even before ever trying one on, I was convinced rompers only looked good if you had a long torso and legs. However, after actually trying on a few, I was totally won over.
What I came to love about the jumpsuit’s little sister is how versatile the one piece is. It defines the waist and shows off curves without being skin-tight. Consider the romper a flirty, cute, and fun dress alternative for spring and summer.
When it comes to pulling it off this new staple, it’s all about finding a romper that flatters your figure. A good starting place is where it hits your waist.
Since I’m 5’3, I look for rompers with a high break in the midsection such as the empire waist versus a dropped waist. Think about the dresses in your closet that you love, and look at the kind of waistlines they have. I bet you’ll discover a theme.
Once you have determined what waistlines are best, you will be able to confidently shop for rompers because you know what to look for.
So now that you’ve mastered the art of choosing the right romper, how do you style it?
Scroll down now to learn my three styling tips for rompers and get inspired to add one to your wardrobe.
OPEN DENIM SHIRTDRESS
An open denim shirtdress produces the same effect as a long cardigan with a fitted mini dress. By instantly giving a minimal look delicate movement, the shirtdress hugs the body creating an elongating silhouette.
Denim shirtdresses work best with rompers that are strappy, sleeveless and strapless. Look for light weight denim that moves as you walk and avoid dress styles that flare.
NUDE LACE-UP HEELS
Nude lace-up heels are the perfect component to upgrading an already winning combo: a romper and lace-up sandals. Lace-up heels are incredibly flattering, especially in a nude tone that matches your skin.
Nude heels visually elongate the legs while giving off a touch of subtle femininity. I particularly love pairing nude heels with bright outfits and earth tones. They go well with essentially everything.
TOP HANDLE BAG
The ultimate ladylike accessory is a top handle bag. Its gripped or slipped over the forearm placement frees the outfit of obstructions, which is key to maintaining length in the overall look.
For this romper from hello ruby, I paired my Louis Vuitton Vernis Alma GM. It gave the outfit a feminine, monochromatic vibe.
When choosing a top handle bag to pair with your romper, follow the style rule of keeping your accessories simple if your clothes are busy such as patterns, bold colors and prints and vice versa.
With an exception to every rule, mixing patterns and prints is trendy for 2017. If you want to learn more, Who What Wear has a really great guide on how to style the mix and match trend.
This goes with all the advice I give you, everything has an exception. Trends are merely guidelines or suggestions. If you feel good in an outfit that’s not considered on trend, WEAR IT.
Now more than ever, personal style is paramount.
“A personal style is like handwriting - it happens as the byproduct of our way of seeing things, enriched by the experiences of everything around us.”

Valentine's Day: A day of romance for some and a total cliche for others. NRP states the loved and loathed holiday as we know it began in 1913 when Hallmark Cards of Kansas City, Mo., began mass producing valentines. More than a 100 years later, Feb. 14 has never been the same.
At the heart of this holiday, it's a day for appreciating the people you love, whoever they may be. This could mean a significant other, friends, family, coworkers and even yourself are perfect reasons to spend the day celebrating all the love that's in our lives.
It's also the perfect excuse to get all dressed up and go out. Maybe it's dinner for two or bonding with your close friends, here are 16 pink blush tone dresses that will steal your heart.
