I always forget much fun Omaha Fashion Week is. You get to dress up. Go out to dinner. Socialize with new & old friends. Experience fashion in motion.
What makes Omaha Fashion Week really fun is getting to see my blogger friends IRL. We usually all get together one night for dinner before a show. It’s so much fun catching up and being around like-minded friends.
All the runway photos are from the Friday, March 1, emerging designer showcase. All the designers are new to me. Previously, I have interviewed local fashion designers for Encounter Magazine, which was part of Omaha Publications. You can read stories about Hannah Nodskov (@hannahcarolinecouture), Breanne Reiss (@breezyreiss), & Agustin Delgado (@amdelgado.designs) below.
For our blogger dinner, we went to Época Cantina (@epocacantina) in The Capitol District. It’s on the first level off of Davenport St. The decor was fun was the pink wall, gold piping, and chevron wood plank wall.
Época has great happy hour specials. $2 tacos & $4 margs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. every day. I had the pollo asado (shredded chicken) taco and the chorizo (spicy Spanish pork sausage) taco. Both came on grilled corn tortillas with raw onion, cilantro, and fresh lime.
I tried the mint Jamaica margarita first. It’s served on the rocks. I love the freshness the mint and hibiscus gave it. I also tried the strawberry house margarita and it came on the rocks. It’s exactly what you think of when you order a strawberry marg.
I would totally recommend adding this place to your list if you want to kick back and eat some great Mexican food. We also ordered the trio appetizer that came with guacamole, salsa roja, and salsa verde. Guac was good, it was topped with diced tomatoes and fresh cilantro. We order a mix of flour and corn tortillas for our dips. The flour chips were fluffier and the corn had more crunch. I preferred the corn.
On Saturday night, I had dinner with Ember (@embersbeneathme) at IkaSan (@ikasanomaha) in the Old Market. It’s in the alley off 11th & Jackson on the southwest side, in the old Omaha Clay Works building. If this makes more sense, in the alley behind The Boiler Room.
The space is super industrial with graffiti murals and strings of lantern lights. IkaSan is the sister location to Ika Ramen in Benson (@ikaramen). The menus are identical. Both play 90s & 2000s hip-hop music. I’ve been to Ika Ramen several times. I always order the vegetarian ramen. It has a mushroom and veggie broth with a mushroom medley, onsen tamago (slow poached egg), negi (scallions), pickled ginger, tofu, and shiitake bacon. I usually order mine with ajitama instead of onsen tamago. Ajitama is soft boiled egg marinated in a sweet soy sauce, and they’re so delicious.
I’ve also had the fried brussel sprouts, Tokyo fried chicken, yakitori (marinated chicken thigh skewers), & gyoza (dumplings) at the Benson location. The yakitori is so tender and moist, and the gyoza is always perfectly pan seared with flavorful dumpling sauce. IkaSan’s menu also includes donburi rice dishes and poke bowls.
At dinner, I tried the tanuki cocktail. I had rum, macadamia nut, lime, and basil. Rum isn’t my favorite liquor, and this cocktail was tasty. It really refreshing and I loved the basil note.
IkaSan is another great spot for happy hour in Downtown Omaha. All ramen is $2 off, poke bowls are $11, and all small plates excluding two dishes are $4. They have drink specials on sake, cocktails, beer, and sake bombs. Happy hours for IkaSan in the Old Market are below.

All and all Spring 19 Omaha Fashion Week was a blast. The Saturday night show was just as good as the Friday show. Robert Figueroa (@rogerfigueroa_designs) showed two collections, and the second one was absolutely stunning. I’ll be sharing video from that collection on my IG stories.
If you like any of the runway looks above, make sure to look up the designers on Instagram and support them. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this post!
