It's less than a week until the Fourth of July, which means we've hit peak summer goodness, and it's time for the best activities. Barbecues, pool, beach, and of course, rooftop parties have all arrived.
Just like any summer event, Fourth of July is all about having fun and looking your best while doing it. No American flags here though, all three looks play to the patriotic theme but can also be worn all summer long.
Kick back, relax and scroll down for the three red, white and blue looks I styled for Independence Day.
Rooftops are one of the best places to spend your summer. It's hard to say what makes them so enticing, maybe it's the city views or dancing under the stars to your favorite jams. Whatever it is, rooftop parties are for celebrating big and Fourth of July fits the bill.
The star of this rooftop party look is the Topshop ruffle dress. The striped fabric gives off total Americana vibes yet it's still classic, stylish and not a flag.
To complete the look, I paired the fun, flirty dress with neutral blush-toned color accessories to really play up the dress's romantic details. I kept jewelry to a minimum since the dress has a lot going on.
Throw on your favorite pair of sunnies and a shoulder bag and go all the way up.
BBQs are summer at it's finest. For whatever reason, cooking food over an open flame brings people together. It's an opportunity to catch up with your favorite people while eating some delicious grilled meats, chips, dips, side dishes and desserts.
BBQs tend to be low-key since you're usually in someone's backyard. This leaves your outfit choices open to a whole range of options. All you need to consider is how pieces stand up to outdoor elements of heat, grass and precipitation.
I love denim for the Fourth of July especially when it's paired with a romper. This romper from Revolve modernizes the classic tank and denim shorts look you normally wear to a BBQ. The lace-up back also allows you to adjust the fit and you stay cooler because you're wearing less fabric.
For shoes, you want ones you can move around in that won't sink into the ground. That means traditional skinny heels are out! A great alternative is wedges since you still get the height, and they'll be comfortable enough to wear all day.
Unlike going out on town, BBQs aren't supposed to be super fancy. They're for impromptu volleyball games, dance parties and eating as much food as you want. Keep all of this in mind when choosing an outfit.
In most of the United States, it's only warm enough to go swimming three or four months a year. (We can't all live in Hawai'i.) However, that doesn't mean you should skimp on summer swim essentials even though you won't be wearing them for another nine months after the season.
You can never go wrong with red, navy or white when it comes to your wardrobe. All are universally flattering colors for the most part, and they go with almost everything.
The ruffle and scalloped details on the bikinis stay true to romantic style while the blue gingham print represents current summer trends. It's always a good idea to add a large brimmed sun hat to your beach look. They're super stylish and protect your from aging prematurely.
Next week we'll talk more about how you can take care of your skin while having fun in the sun!
