I started using Derma-King a week ago. What's cool about this skin care line is my cousin started it in memory of his mother, my aunt, who passed away from brain cancer last year. I lived with her during my sophomore and junior college years. She was the older sister I never had.
While we were living together she went to esthetic school and I totally got to reap the benefits of her practicing on me all the time. I've never had a better spa experience since.
Even after seven years and visiting countless luxury spas at the Mandarin Oriental to Four Seasons, her facial still wins out. Her passion shined through in every movement, application and touch.
It's an honor to share how her legacy will live on through Derma-King.
LAVENDER CREAMY CLEANSER
Cleanser is usually the first product in most skin care regimens. I prefer a gentle cleanser year round because of my fair, sensitive skin and especially during the winter months when my skin is dried out.
Derma-King's lavender creamy cleanser is recommended for dry, sensitive and sunburned skin. The aloe vera in it calms redness and soothes dryness while replenishing skin moisture. The first night I used it, I wrote, "it feels great after coming in from the cold."
After cleansing, my skin felt super soft. I loved the botanical lavender smell and how quickly it penetrated the skin.
The best part? It can be used without water. Massage it into your face like you normally would and then remove with a tissue. It's perfect for all the nights you don't want to take your makeup off, which I am so guilty. Now I have no excuse!
ADVANCED RETINOL SERUM
I will do my best to explain why retinol is a total game-changer for skin. Retinol is a derivative of vitamin A. It's used to treat acne and aging. If you suffered from acne during your teenage years you might remember using Retin A.
It works by boosting skin building blocks like collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.
Its antioxidant property fights free radicals (these come from pollution like smog, dust, smoke, and don't forget the sun).
It unclogs pores and reduces uneven pigmentation like the dark marks blemishes leave behind.
Skin needs time to adjust when using retinol and can be irritating at first. Remember to start by using it every other night or third night and then build up to daily use.
Retinol should be applied at night and remember to always wear sunscreen while using them.
I have used the retinol serum twice so far. I apply it to my face and neck. It's hard to say what the noticeable differences can be identified yet, retinol is designed to produce significant results after long-term use.
I do think my skin overall looks more refreshed and has a particular glowing quality about it. It's the same result you expect after getting a facial, chemical peel, micro, etc. My skin is noticeably smoother too.
Always follow a retinol serum with moisturizer.
ULTRA BENEFITS MOISTURIZER
If you only do two things for your skin: cleanse and moisturize!
Hydrating is a key pillar of healthy skin. This article from HuffPost explains why moisturizing is important and how it's as important to make sure you're using the right products for your skin type.
I was excited to try Ultra Benefits because the combination of hydrating peptides and antioxidants work to reverse and prevent signs of aging.
I like that it has some weight to it. It absorbs quickly and smells fantastic. It's really made a difference brightening under my eyes.
MULTI-COMPLEX NIGHT CREME
Until about a year ago, I never used a night creme. I wasn't sure I needed it because I was already using moisturizer after washing my face at night.
Night creme is to skin what sleep is to the body. Its job is to keep skin hydrated through the night. Think about how long you like to sleep, then think about spending that time awake without drinking any water. THIRSTY!
Derma-King's night creme does a number of things while you sleep: it rejuvenates, nourishes, firms and brightens.
It's my favorite product I tried! When I wake up my skin is radiant. I look like Sleeping Beauty after she wakes up from her deep sleep. The best way to describe it would be dewy.
O2 LIFT MASK
Face masks are designed to help address skin care concerns. I once made a mask at home from yogurt, honey and turmeric because I read somewhere that it would give me glowing skin. Here it is if you want to try it. The point I'm making is that, everyone has concerns when it comes to their skin, and face masks are a great way to treat them.
The O2 Lift Mask is a hydrating gel mask. The benefits of it are a lot like an oxygen facial. When oxygen is pumped into the skin, it leaves the skin looking plump and lifted.
This mask is perfect for winter. My skin felt extremely dried out the other day so I applied it while I soaked in the bath for 20 minutes. The areas around my nose and eyes were less irritated the next day.
It can be used on the neck, chest and back of hands, and can be left on overnight as well. I will definitely be using it before and after my next flight.
Below is a video explaining how to use the mask.
Those are my thoughts on Derma-King products so far. I will update you in a few weeks with a final review.
